Some Good News
A long fight finally reaches a happy end.
We hope everyone is having a Happy Holidays and have some good news to share. After a months-long battle, we have managed to get the company with which we have smol farm to agree to let us get a traditional mortgage – an agreement we were only able to reach with them more days before we were supposed to be out through an eleventh hour filing by an terrifically talented lawyer we found.
This fight was tremendous. It began with us falling behind on payments in 2021 and rallying at the last moment to pay off the back balance through the breakthrough success of the Dastardly Ducks. While we hoped that would be the end of our struggle, frustratingly, we had an agreement with the company where, at the end of 3 years, we either had to find a regular mortgage, buy it out cash, or move out.
After falling so far behind, it was if they did not take it seriously that we could buy the farm – despite us being contractually obligated to have the opportunity to do. Perhaps they also hoped to sell the property for even more to someone else, given the ballooning price of housing in the United States. Regardless, for the second time in a year, when it seemed all hope was lost, we were able to find a last-minute solution.
While this is all far from finalized, and we have still have much to do to properly rebuild, we are finally approaching a definitive and happy ending to this crisis. This would not be possible without the generous support of so many of our friends, who have helped ensure we had the funds we needed in moments of intense crisis.
We are doing plenty of work outside of smol farm to ensure we can remain in a stable place going forward and be able to devote more energy and resources to building and creating more. Continued support of our projects is still extremely appreciated and will help enormously, but we are also finally at a point where we can work on thriving instead of just surviving, which is an enormous relief.
We are determined to make 2023 by far the best year for smol farm yet, both here for us and for those following along and enjoying what we create. Though this fight felt long, we know that, years down the road, this will just be the tumultuous early years that defined something that then became strong and beautiful. Much as that requires a lot of work from us, it would not even be possible without you, so thank you and much love from the smol farm fam.
