Introducing Dastardly Eggsweeper
Our first foray into indie game development will be a creative twist on an existing classic, and we're excited to share some early details.
We love the Dastardly Ducks as much as our community, and it only seemed natural that we choose them for our first game of a series we’re calling smol farm arcade. These will be relatively simple games but with an infusion of heart, wit, and experimentation that might otherwise be lacking from other games of the sort. The first will be a tribute to the classic Minesweeper, except centered around Dan the Duck, #0001 in the NFT collection.
Dan has, well, a bit of a drinking problem. You awaken one day groggy but eager to take care of the chores only to find him wandering about the meadow. He’s laid an egg somewhere, and yes that means what you think. You need to fetch it from the overgrown grass near the duck house without accidentally breaking it!
The game will offer both classic mode — just Minesweeper with a delightfully dastardly look — and a story mode — which further features the exploits of drunk Dan. These missions will not be particularly long or tricky but will feature new spins on the Minesweeper-style game such as terrain and special abilities.
Ducks love ponds, but they certainly don’t lay eggs in them! But that can make egg detection a bit more tricky, since you can’t read the number on the tile either! Not sure if a tile has an egg on it or not, and you need to check without getting a game over? Some levels will let you use corgcorg fetch!, which lets you send a corgcorg into the clump of grass to poke around for an egg, with tiny legs that will not crush the egg.
When we have a beta, Dastardly Duck NFT holders will get automatic access, as well as the ability to get a copy of the final game. However, we also hope this will be a way for people not into NFTs to engage with the world of the Dastardly Ducks and will be releasing it to the general public as an inexpensive purchase for PC and mobile devices.
While we have far more ambitious games in the pipeline, we hope that you will enjoy our first offering of interactive fun, even if smol — much like our farm. We know you’ll enjoy playing it as much as we’re enjoying building it. We will have more to share with you in the very near future here on the Substack, but we wanted to give you a taste of what we are working on.
