Livin' in Limbo
We still lack a resolution to our property problems, though we have a few updates about where things stand.
As we detailed in a previous post, we are once again at risk of losing the property on which smol farm is located. We acquired this farm through a startup that offered very low down payments — except, after 3 years, you either must move out or buy the property through traditional means. Because we fell behind on payments — though miraculously caught up through the launch of the Dastardly Ducks — they are refusing to cooperate with us to switch over to a traditional mortgage.
Unfortunately, attempts to negotiate with them have failed. At this point we are expecting — but have not yet received — to be served legal documents to start the process of obtaining a “writ of possession.” Until then, we still have legal rights to occupy the property. We will have an opportunity to make our case to a judge, though we cannot rely on that working out in our favor — the company has a strong legal team. This likely, at best, buys us weeks, not months.
We hope that, one way or another, we will be given the opportunity to retain the home we have now lived in for over three years. The company would have to sell this property — which sat on the market for awhile even in good times — during the downturn. We are their ideal buyer, even if they are currently blinded by procedure. However, regardless of outcome, there are two goals that are paramount:
securing a permanent home for us and our animals 🦆
ensuring we have the space to create more awesome stuff for you 💜
The ideal ending? We stay here and avoid being ripped away from a place we love and the ordeal of uprooting everything to start over again somewhere else. However, we are also having to prepare for the eventuality that will not happen and are looking at other similar properties that will enable us to put out the sort of content about our real life agricultural efforts that we have intended for so long.
Since our initial post about this problem almost a month ago, we have experienced an awesome outpouring of support of various kinds — for which we are immensely grateful beyond what I could ever fashion into words. While we are still stuck in a strange limbo state, trying to finally and fully get ourselves established, we are confident that soon — especially with all the help we are getting — we will soon be able to focus largely on good news and cool releases.
