playing smol games
At smol farm, we want to create a variety of things, but what excites us most is gaming.
We love NFTs. They saved us in a major way back in January. As a studio, we have invested a lot of time to further our skills in this emerging medium, from Fumeiji developing more sophisticated art assets for Wandering Witches to my pushing Solidity gas savings to the limit and building complex generation tools. However, we want to do more than just that — especially with the crypto market in the state that it is. More than anything, we have dreamed of building games.
There are a lot of exciting ways that smart contracts on blockchains can power sophisticated game mechanics. However, while we have interests in dabbling in that area, we want to create projects that can bring in a wide audience. We believe in NFTs, but it might take the rest of the world a few more years. In the meantime, we want to hone our talents as an indie game studio to bring fun, interactive content to you.
Our initial releases will be fairly simple, as we want to be realistic with what we seek to accomplish, but each will represent an engaging and polished final product of which we are proud. In the past week, I was already hard at work prototyping a first release in Unity. Some of these titles will be set in our established worlds like Wandering Witches and Dastardly Ducks, and we plan to offer free keys to NFT holders to reward them for their early support.
But we want a diversity of games that we know anyone can enjoy right here and now, regardless if they have an NFT of ours or not. We do not want that to be a self-limiting aspect of games that we release. We know there are even a lot of supporters and fans of ours who are excited to see what we create — but have no interest in anything crypto. And that’s okay!
Our goal is to create things that enrich people’s lives, and there are many forms that may take. We don’t want creatures as cute and cuddly as the Dastardly Ducks to be tied solely to the blockchain — even if that will always be a foundational part of their genesis. The excitement in our shared workspace over these projects was electric. We cannot wait until you can feel the spark of joy that they will bring.
