The Heart & Soul in AI Art
Critics of AI art often decry it as soulless. I prove them conclusively wrong.
The arguments against AI span a broad spectrum of validity, but one that stands out as particularly baseless is the notion that AI art is inherently devoid of soul. Just as with photography, extracting the ideal outcome from AI art requires considerable effort and finesse. My latest collection, "ai²", showcases the exquisite results attainable through the masterful application of artificial intelligence.
The pieces within this collection are depicted in an enchanting watercolor style, with a subtle nod to anime. They feature women in enthralling scenes that evoke the undeniable warmth and affection shared between them. The name "ai²" is a clever play on words, combining AI (artificial intelligence) with the Japanese word for love, "ai."
The creation process was far from a simple matter of inputting words and awaiting the flawless collection. Instead, the final products emerged from intricate prompts and countless iterations, guided by my feedback, steering the AI's creations ever closer to the precise vision I sought.
These captivating images were crafted using the sophisticated Midjourney v5 platform, which generates complex visuals from text. Prompts can be broken down with semicolons or commas, allowing for the development of a coherent style that endures across multiple pieces. By crafting lengthy chains of keywords encapsulating styles and moods, the desired artistic sensibilities are imbued within the entire collection.
For instance, a simplified version of the stylistic foundation for ai² might include "watercolor; anime; lush; scenic; heartwarming." This foundation can be appended to the end of descriptions for each specific composition in the collection. The next step involves sifting through initial iterations, selecting a promising rough generation, and engaging in the process of iteratively providing feedback to refine the image to perfection.
The truly breathtaking results are far from devoid of intent or soul. Each piece represents my significant efforts in molding the AI's output into something sublime. While this approach may demand substantially less artistic technique, dismissing it as not art would be a disservice to the essence of the artistic process – a series of subjective responses that transform the void into something of substance.
