the smol atlas
A broad overlook of what smol farm wants to do in the near future — a roadmap of roadmaps.
Many projects have roadmaps. Though we are still just a team of two people, we have ambitions broader than a single project — though we hope that some people who enjoy our work will check out most or all of what we do. Furthermore, while we have focused a lot on NFT creation, our goal is not to be an “NFT studio” — but rather a multimedia studio that bridges a lot of forms of media in compelling ways. So this is our atlas — a roadmap of roadmaps.
Many in the NFT space know us for our cute cartoon critters: Dastardly Ducks, Yo Kitties, and corg corg. We have ambitious plans for exploring this world more, including exploring the stories of specific characters like Dan the Duck — Dastardly Duck #0001 used in much of the project’s social media branding. We also are working on blockchain-native social media and mini-game site somewhat akin to Neopets.
To put it bluntly, none of these projects has yet generated the scale of revenue of big players in the space, and much of the money raised from Dastardly Ducks, as discussed at launch, had to go to us making back payments. Because of this, we have had limited resources to bring this to light — though we can realize most of our vision over time ourselves.
Furthermore, we have had a lot of people ask for Dastardly Ducks merch so they can bring more of that cuteness into their day-to-day lives. We plan on opening an online merchandise store in the coming months. While we hope this to be a much-needed source of ongoing revenue to support the project, we hate price gouging as much as you and will work to keep prices reasonable, unlike some other NFT projects that have gone this route.
For the past week, we have talked a lot about Wandering Witches, our new NFT-based project based on ideas we have worked on since before we even knew what NFTs were. The witches astral project in their dreams, exploring mysterious realms that sometimes bleed over into our waking reality. Each denied things they need to thrive as witches, they learn to use their dreams to wander, connect with each other, and learn about themselves.
One thing we love about this lore is how open-ended it is. We have specific stories we want to tell in it through books, comics, and, if we can get the resources to do so, games. However, the idea is anyone with witchy magic in any world — ours or otherwise — searching to feel whole can master this power. And even those who find peace for themselves can choose to become Acolytes of Beakon, wandering not because they need to, but to help others who do.
While many of our projects have explicitly had no pre-announced roadmap, this goes entirely in the other direction, with us planning out exactly what we would want to do with this world for the first few years and sharing much of it with people before they mint anything. More specific details will be announced soon on the project’s Twitter.
BB the Flying Fox
We have a VTuber character — played by yours truly — named BB the Flying Fox. She has not had a stream since January for two reasons: my anxiety about harassment waves I had experienced in the past due to being queer and an NFT creator along with the need to focus on doing everything we could to prepare for what seemed like an inevitable bear market this year.
In the near future, BB streams will resume on a regular basis. At some point soon, Fumeiji will also do a much enhanced revamp and re-rig of BB to provide a more emotive and cute experience.
Our ambitions to start putting out more content about small-scale farming keep being set back by that same need to prioritize other areas first, given we still do not have the kind of resources so many others in this space have.
Fumeiji put together a short video on our YouTube channel using the music from one of our omgkirby music NFTs, though we want to be regularly delivering people a lot of cute real-world animal video content to go with their cartoon critters.
We do have our “smol snaps” photography NFT collection of editions that cost 0.02 ETH each, and, what is great about that collection is it serves as a curated gallery that anyone can enjoy. Over time, we will continue to add to that.
You’ll finally get to hear about this some day. We promise.
For as long as we have been in love, Fumeiji and I have dreamed of working on ambitious creative projects together, though we spent years trapped in the grind of just getting by. Our talents are quite synergistic — her illustration and design skills, my writing and coding skills — and, despite our scrappy smol size, we are capable of big things. All we ask is that you come along for the ride.
